Remove EXIF and GPS from a photo
Phone photos often store where they were taken, which camera was used, and the exact time. That data sits inside the file, not on the picture you see. Posting the original can reveal a home or workplace. This tool removes that hidden data on your device.
How it treats each format
- JPG — EXIF, XMP, and Photoshop segments are removed. The photo is not re-compressed, so it does not get blurrier.
- PNG — text and EXIF chunks are removed. The image data stays.
- WebP and other files — the picture is re-saved as a clean JPG, which drops the metadata.
How to remove EXIF
- Add the photos you plan to share.
- Click Convert.
- Download the cleaned files. Check one in an EXIF viewer if the photo is sensitive.
iPhone HEIC photos are easier to share after HEIC to JPG. That conversion also drops most camera metadata. To shrink the file for a form, use compress to 100KB after this step.
Frequently asked questions
EXIF is hidden information stored in a photo, such as GPS location, camera model, and the time the picture was taken.
Add the JPG or PNG here and download the cleaned file. Location tags are removed with the rest of the EXIF data.
Not for JPG and PNG. Those are cleaned without re-compressing the pixels. Other formats are re-saved as JPG.
No. Metadata is removed in your browser. That is the point of a privacy tool.
JPG and PNG exports work here. A .heic file should go through the HEIC to JPG converter first if this page cannot read it.
