How to Convert PDF to JPG for Free
Five free methods for Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android — and which one gives the best quality without watermarks or uploads.
Quick answer
Open a free PDF to JPG converter in your browser, select the PDF, choose 150 DPI for screens or 300 DPI for print, then click Convert. Download each page as a JPG or all pages as a ZIP. No account, no watermark, and the file is not uploaded.
Method 1: A browser converter (any device)
This is the fastest option on every device because there is nothing to install.
- Open fastestimageconvert.com/pdf-to-jpg.
- Tap Select PDF file and choose your document.
- Pick a DPI (150 is a good default) and quality.
- Optional: type a page range such as
1-3, 5. - Click Convert PDF and download the JPGs or the ZIP.
The PDF is rendered by your browser, so it never reaches a server. That matters for bank statements, ID scans and contracts.
Method 2: Preview on Mac
- Open the PDF in Preview.
- Select the page you want in the sidebar.
- Choose File › Export.
- Set Format to JPEG, choose a resolution (300 pixels/inch for print), and save.
Good for one page. Preview exports a single page at a time, so a 20-page PDF means 20 exports.
Method 3: Snipping Tool on Windows
Windows cannot save a PDF as JPG on its own. The workaround is a screenshot:
- Open the PDF and zoom so the page fills the screen.
- Press Win + Shift + S and drag around the page.
- Open the capture in Snipping Tool and save it as JPG.
The image can only be as sharp as your screen, and you must repeat it for every page. For full-resolution pages use Method 1.
Method 4: iPhone and iPad
In Safari, the browser converter works exactly like on a computer. Apple’s Shortcuts app can also do it with the “Make Image from PDF Page” action, but you have to build the shortcut yourself. Step-by-step: how to convert PDF to JPG on iPhone.
Method 5: Android
Android has no built-in PDF to JPG option. Open the PDF to JPG converter in Chrome, pick the PDF from your Files or Downloads, and convert. Screenshots work too, but they are low resolution and include the phone’s status bar.
Which method should you use?
| Method | Full-page quality | All pages at once | Uploads file? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Browser converter (ours) | Yes, up to 300 DPI | Yes, ZIP | No |
| Mac Preview | Yes | No, one page at a time | No |
| Screenshot (Windows, Android) | Limited to screen | No | No |
| iPhone Shortcuts | Yes | Yes, after setup | No |
| Typical upload-based sites | Yes | Often limited | Yes |
What “free” should mean
Plenty of PDF tools call themselves free, then add a catch. Before you convert, check for:
- Watermarks stamped on the JPG.
- Daily limits such as two files per day.
- Email or account walls before the download.
- Uploads of a private document to someone else’s server.
Our PDF to JPG converter has none of these.
Get the best result
- Use 150 DPI for messages, email and websites.
- Use 300 DPI + High quality for printing — see PDF to JPG in high quality.
- Need every page? Leave the range empty — see convert all PDF pages to JPG.
- JPG too large for a form? Compress it to 100KB.
PDF to JPG FAQ
What is the easiest free way to convert PDF to JPG?
Use a browser-based converter. Open it, select the PDF, pick a DPI and download the JPG files. It works the same on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android, with nothing to install.
Can Windows convert PDF to JPG without software?
Windows has no built-in “save as JPG” for PDFs. You can screenshot a page with the Snipping Tool, but the image is limited to your screen resolution. A browser converter gives full-page, higher-resolution JPGs.
How do I convert PDF to JPG on a Mac for free?
Open the PDF in Preview, choose File › Export, set Format to JPEG and pick a resolution. Preview exports one page at a time, so for many pages a browser converter is faster.
Do free PDF to JPG converters add a watermark?
Some do, especially apps with a paid tier. FastestImageConvert adds no watermark and has no daily limit.
Is it safe to convert PDFs online?
It depends on whether the file is uploaded. Many sites upload your PDF to their server. Our converter renders the PDF inside your browser, so the file never leaves your device.
